Cocktails & French Fries

I fell in love with North Italia the first time I wandered into one in Houston around 2018, long before they opened in Dallas. They've grown a lot since then, and now we have several locations across DFW.

My favorite is the Victory Park location. The patio offers beautiful skyline views, and the whole place somehow manages to feel lively without feeling rushed. When convenience wins the day, I head to the Galleria instead. It's easier to navigate, easier to park, and consistently just as good. If I'm already up north, the Legacy West location is another favorite.

The "Fries"

Who needs French fries when you have zucchini chips?

I know. That's a bold statement.

But North Italia's zucchini chips are good enough to earn a chain restaurant exception in my Cocktails & French Fries series.

I would happily go to North Italia by myself, order nothing but the zucchini chips and a glass of red wine and call it self-care.

Honestly... the best part might be not having to share the zucchini chips.

They're impossibly light. Thin, crispy, and somehow never greasy. Ask for extra Parmesan and red pepper flakes, then doctor them up yourself with plenty of Parmesan, a pinch of kosher salt, and just enough pepper flakes to wake everything up.

Stay for Dinner

As much as I love the zucchini chips, they're not the only reason to go.

The pastas are consistently excellent. My favorite is the Short Rib Radiatori, tossed in a creamy horseradish sauce that's rich without being too heavy.

Last Christmas I hosted the BMK team at the Victory Park location. We sat on the patio overlooking the Dallas skyline, lingered over dinner, and enjoyed one of those evenings where nobody was in a hurry to leave.

I've met girlfriends at the bar here.

Friends have celebrated graduations here.

I've brought my older boys here.

I'd absolutely come here for date night.

It's one of those rare restaurants that comfortably fits all of those occasions.

Before You Go

My favorite location is Victory Park, but unless you're already downtown, traffic and parking can be a little annoying. There's a parking garage nearby, so valet isn't necessary.

The Galleria location is usually easier to get in and out of if convenience wins the day.

Lighting: Dim, but not dark.

Noise: Lively enough to feel fun, but quiet enough for real conversation.

Dress code: Casual, but definitely not "grab a burger" casual.

Crowd: Twentysomethings through empty nesters.

Energy: Bustling without being chaotic.

Can you stay awhile and talk about real life? Absolutely.

Would I bring a girlfriend? Yes.

Good for date night? Also, yes.

The fam? For the right occasion and the right ages.

The whole team? Probably not.

North Italia is one of those rare places that works for almost everything. It may be a chain, but it never feels like one. And if you order the zucchini chips, I promise you won't miss the fries.
