The Vibe

If someone asks me for one restaurant that can handle almost any occasion, Mesero is near the top of my list.

Girls' night? Absolutely. Date night? Yep. Business lunch? Easy. Dinner with the family? Also works.

What separates Mesero from the sea of Tex-Mex restaurants around Dallas isn't necessarily the food—it's the experience. The dining rooms feel polished, the service is consistently excellent, and everything strikes that sweet spot between elevated and approachable. You can show up in jeans or dressed for a night out and never feel out of place.

At the Preston Hollow Village location, I'm equally happy sitting in the dining room, grabbing a seat at the bar, or enjoying the patio... at least until August reminds us we live in Texas.

The Drink

The Jalapina Margarita is one of my favorite margaritas in Dallas. Bright, fresh, a little spicy, a little smoky - it's the drink I recommend most often. The Watermelon Basil Maragarita is a seasonal close second. 

I'm also a fan of their Ranch Water. Simple tequila, Topo Chico, and fresh lime - but the presentation makes it feel just a little more festive than your average highball.

The "Fries"

The complimentary chips and salsa are one of my favorite parts of the entire experience.

The chips are thick-cut and taste unmistakably house-made. They're substantial enough to stand up to the salsas without feeling heavy, and as someone who believes there's almost no such thing as too much salt, I love that Mesero offers kosher salt on the table.

As for the salsa trio... I'm firmly Team Orange. It's creamy, just a little fruity, with enough gentle heat to keep you reaching for another chip.

If you're ordering an appetizer, skip the fries and share the Queso Fundido instead. Rich, gooey, and absolutely decadent, it's one of those dishes that's much better shared than tackled alone.

Who It's For

Here's the funny thing about Mesero: I don't actually love most of the menu.

But I absolutely love going to Mesero.

That's because I've found the dishes that keep bringing me back.

For me, that's the Chile Colorado—slow-roasted pork with guajillo chile, onions, poblano peppers, roasted red peppers, and arroz verde. It's comforting without feeling heavy, flavorful without relying on cheese, and somehow feels both indulgent and virtuous at the same time.

Bonus: I always take half home, and I might love the leftovers even more.

KP's Take

Mesero will always have a special place in my heart.

During COVID, one of my closest friendships was built almost entirely over Zoom. For nearly a year, Desiree and I coached, laughed, solved problems, and shared life through a computer screen before we ever met in person.

When it was finally time to change that, we met at Mesero.

Looking back, it's hard to imagine a better place. Great cocktails, outstanding chips and salsa, and a dining room that makes you want to linger.

Every time I walk through the doors, I think about that lunch and smile.

That's the funny thing about restaurants.

Sometimes the food is what brings you back.

Sometimes it's the memories you made there.

Practical Notes

Parking: Don’t bother circling for street level - head straight to the parking garage. 

Reservations: Helpful on weekends but usually not required.

Price Vibe: $$

Lighting: Bright but warm.

Noise Level: Moderate.

Dress Code: Everything from athleisure to date-night attire.

Crowd: Families, professionals, couples, and neighborhood regulars.

Energy: Polished, lively, approachable.
